Hey there,
thinking of joining a GYM, well then don’t worry we’ve got your back.. and.. shoulders, legs, biceps, tric – –
Okay you got it.
Here’s All you need to know before joining a GYM.
I’ll be dividing this in three parts :
- About the GYM
- GYM Habits
- GYM Workouts
ABOUT THE GYM
“GYMS NEAR ME”
Find a GYM at a distance of maximum 10-15 minutes from where you live. People sometimes spend more time in travelling to and from the GYM then actually in the GYM working out.
Even if we look at it from a “when you want to give up, remember why you started” quote standpoint of view, many researches have shown that if your GYM is closer to where you live, you’re more likely to go there regularly.
Prefer cycling or walking to the GYM.
Also, I’m not making this into another point, but just don’t get whole year’s subscription to your GYM at once before you start, no matter how close the GYM is, just try it out for a month or two first and then take your decision as per your experience.
“GYM EQUIPMENTS”
Buy those gym shorts, those sipper bottles, that sweat towel, those oversized t-shirts (because no one wants to see you flex your muscles wearing tighty whities, everyone’s there in the GYM to just have a good workout).
Anyways continuing,
buy that supporter for leg day, and don’t you dare miss it.
All I’m saying is buy all the GYM necessities, there’s no such big reason for it but I would still like to say that would you be more comfortable working out in a two-piece suit or in your gym clothes. If you’re answer is what I think it is, then there you have it, point proven.
GYM HABITS
“BEST TIME TO GO TO THE GYM”
Fix a time to go to the GYM, preferably morning, but still whatever time suits you and whatever time you think you can give yourself 1-2 hours grinding in the GYM.
And if you tend to travel in the city and don’t have time to go to a particular GYM, then use VYAM app, to book a GYM session for yourself at a GYM near you. Here on the app you can check pictures, get detailed timings and schedule your session accordingly. Get the app on Google Play Store. Currently live in Asansol, Durgapur, soon in Kolkata.
“TALK TO YOUR GYM CRU–”
Oh, I mean
“TALK TO YOUR GYM INSTRUCTOR”
You can hire a personal trainer, if your pockets allows, but if not, then there absolutely no problem because when you’re a beginner the GYM trainer will guide you through the process, till you have a fixed workout day-to-day.
So, don’t shy away from talking to your gym instructor, they’ll nothing but help you, because apparently that’s exactly what their job is.
“GYM ETIQUETTES”
This is an important one. There are some GYM etiquettes which are very important and almost a necessity for you to follow :
Always ask if someone else is using the machine you’re going to use.
Always re-rack the machines you’ve finished using.
Always wipe your sweat off machines.
Never compare your body, physique to anyone else but the person you see in the mirror.
This one’s for when someone asks you to spot, while spotting don’t show off your power, listen to the other person, ask for their safe word, motivate them and most importantly spot properly.
GYM WORKOUTS
“ONE BODY PART A DAY”
If you’re a beginner you should go with this, train one body part a day, for me it’s
Monday- Chest
Tuesday- Triceps
Wednesday- Back
Thursday- Biceps
Friday- Shoulders
Saturday- Legs (never miss ‘em)
Sunday- Cardio (basically go for a run, cycling)
Once you’ve gained some experience an you have a good diet (about which I’m going to talk soon), you can try
Monday- Chest, Triceps
Tuesday- Back, Biceps
Wednesday- Shoulders, Legs
And then repeat the same on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
This routine is just standard, other than that your gym instructor will be able to tell you better according to your health.
“COMPOUND MOVEMENT EXERCISES”
One body part a day mostly involves isolated movements exercises (where only one muscle is being trained) but compound movement exercises (where multiple muscles perform and are trained at the same time). So, as the name suggests, they’re very effective for your muscle growth and strength.
Some of the main compound movement exercises are squats, pull-ups, deadlifts, bench-press (incline, plain & decline).
“BEST DIET FOR GYM”
Look I’m no expert in telling you a diet best for you but I can surely help with the basics
If you want to lose weight, you’ll have to follow a calorie deficit diet. Protein can be high but it has to be a low fat mad low calorie one.
If you want to bulk, low carbs and high protein (2gms of protein per kg body weight)
If you want to bulk and gain weight, high carbs and high protein (2gms of protein per kg bodyweight)
“FITNESS INSPIRATION”
As I said that I’m no expert so when you start doing GYM, working out, and following a diet, It’s good to learn from people on the internet about it and the good ones, not the ones who promise to make you Arnold Subhashnagar in a week. Here are 4 people or YT channels that I follow to learn anything and everything about working out, body posture and forms which exercising and diets:
Saket Gokhale
Beer Biceps
Yash Sharma
Omarisuf
A few more things before I sign off,
- It’ll take time for a good asthetic body, and it’ll take a lot of time and a dad like Rakesh Roshan for body like Hrithik Roshan, so DO NOT GIVE UP.
- Never do Ego Training.
- Consistency and diet is the key.
